POSITIONS KEPT OPEN

MEN CALLED FOR SERVICE BOROUGH COUNCIL STAND In the event of any members of the Gisborne Borough Council's staff being called up for service, their positions will be kept open for them pending their return. This was made clear at last night’s meeting of the council, when the Mayor, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., replied to a question asked by Cr. R. Morse. Mr. Coleman said that already he had given instructions to the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, that if any member of the staff was called up for service, the position would be filled only temporarily, and the person taking the post would be told that he would be only a temporary employee , so that the person called up would have his job to go to on his return. “That is only a fair thing,” remarked Cr. H. H. De Costa.
