Last Night’s Forecast General situation: The series of fast -moving westerly depressions continues to cross the Tasman and New Zealand. Forecast: Winds west to northwest east of the ranges from Otago northwards, otherwise mainly between west and south-west, strong in most districts with gales still probable in parts of the North Island: Seas: In New Zealand waters rough to high on the West Coast of the North Island. Moderate in coastal waters south of .Tauranga, rough elsewhere. Eastern Tasman: Strong west to south-west winds reaching gale force at times in central and northern portions. Seas, very rough. Weather: Fair to fine and mild in eastern districts from Otago to the Bay of Plenty, otherwise cool and changeable, with occasional .showers, some isolated thunder and hail storms still probable. To-day’s North Island Report More settled conditions were indicated by the barometric pressure readings at various North Island stations, and temperatures were mild, Tiritiri returning (it degrees, Gisborne sfi, East Cape, and Auckland 55, and other stations down to 50 degrees at Wellington. North-westerly winds, of moderate force, prevailed everywhere except at Castlepoint, where a light southerly was blowing. Blue skies, with passing clouds in •some cases, were general, and visibility conditions were good. Seas along the eastern coastline were calm to moderate without exception. Midday Forecast General situation: An anticyclone is located to the north, while a weak westerly depression is crossing the South Island. Pressure has risen to ti e west. Forecast: Moderate to strong north-west to west winds, a few scattered showers in the high country but weather mainly fair to fine. Temperatures: Moderate to mild. Seas: Slight to moderate.
