SINKING PEACE PLAN GERMAN ALLEGATION ITALY” S NEUTRAL STAND SHIPPING TO RESUME (Reed. Sept. 5. 1.30 p.m.) BERLIN, Sept. 4. The “Hamburger Fremdenblatt” says that Signor Mussolini's proposals for a five-Power conference were: — (1) The immediate cessation of hostilities, the respective troops in Poland to maintain their positions (2) The summoning immediately of a five-Power conference. Germany accepted, France agreed in principle, but Britain torpedoed the proposal at the twelfth hour. A Copenhagen message states that the Danish press points out that Signor Mussolini’s compromise was naturally unacceptable .to Great Britain and France. The newspaper Politiken, drawing attention, to the general .lack of war enthusiasm and hate, says “Something unreal hangs over all.” A message from Rome says that the British and French declaration of war and the speeches of the King and the British Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain are published without comment The fact that the Italian liners are resuming sailings in a few days, indicates Ilaly’a determination to keep neutral. It is stated that Italy expects France and Britain to continue norma 1 relations, despite the Ttalo-Gerniar. military alliance.
