HOMING PIGEONS
CENTRAL SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL YEAR Tho Poverty Bay Central Homing Pigeon Society decided recently to hold its first old bird race of the season on September 9, the birds to be released at Napier. The first junior races will be flown from Napier on September 23. There was an enthusiastic gathering of members at the annual meeting held last month, and tlve lion, secretary, Mr. R. Hall, reported that the club had concluded a most successful season. Forty races were flown from centres north and south, the longest race being from Dunedin. The society's funds had shown a substantial advance.
The following officers were elected for tile ensuing year:—Patron, Mr. J. J. Jackson; president. Mr. J. McLean; vice-presidents, Messrs. P. G. Bell, E Fitzgerald, O. S. Burt. A. Stoneham. I. Crosbv, M. Rovds, I. Prince. R. Wvke, D' Martin, F. Tolerton, H. Melville, H. H. De Costa and J. E. Sheppard; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. Hall; assistant secretary and treasurer. Mr. A. McLauchlan: committee, Messrs. J. McLean, I. Crosby, A. O’Neill, :M. Rovds, D. Somervell, and C. Waldock.
