CHILD DROWNED

FATAL FALL INTO WELL RESUSCITATION FAILS INQUEST CONCLUDED (Special to the Herald.) TE ARAROA, this day. A verdict that the deceased met her death through being accidentally drowned at Te Araroa on Wednesday, August 30, was returned when the inquest into the death of a Maori child, Reremoana Akuhata, aged 21. was concluded before the acting-cor-oner, Mr. F. W. Hunt, in Te Araroa. In evidence it was stated that the deceased had been with her parents, visiting the residence of their neighbours, Mr. and Mrs. Nara Pone. The deceased and other children were playing both in and out of the house. The child was missed for a few minutes and when her father, Pamo Akuhata, went to search for her, he found her head down in a partly covered well near the house. The child’s legs were protruding from the well, which was full of water. The deceased was carried into the house and attempts at resuscitation carried out until the arrival of Dr. Wi Repa and Nurse Banks. On arrival, the doctor and nurse also tried to revive the child, but their efforts were unavailing.
