The Paris representative of the United Press of America reports that the French Government notified Germany that unless German troops are withdrawn from Poland, France would assume her obligations under ’.he Franco-Polish Pact. The French Government has officially announced that Germany replied in the negative to the ultimatum. Thus France is automatically at war and a declaration is not needed. The French ultimatum expired at 5 p.m. The French Government, in a broadcast, placed the blame for the outbreak of hostilities on Germany. The Paris correspondent of the Associated Press of America states that \I. Daladier, Premier of France, in a broadcast, said that Poland since September 1 had been the victim of a “most brutal and sinister type of aggression.” The Premier said that the responsibility for* war rested wholly upon Herr Hitler’s shoulders. Daladier concluded: "Vive La France.” HITLER VISITS FRONT ASSUMES ARMY COMMAND (Reed. Sepl. 4, It a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 3. The Berlin correspondent of the United Press of America stales that, dressed hr uniform and with a bodyguard, Herr Hitler motored to the eastern front at 8.45 p.m. to assume command of the armies. GERMAN SUBMARINES DUELING IN WEST INDIES (Reed. Sept. 4, 11 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 3. The correspondent of the United Press of America at Cristobal, Panama Canal zone, states that a Dutch steamer reported that four German submarines are fueling at Curacao, Dutch West Indies.
