OVERSEAS TRAVEL
PASSPORT SYSTEM PERMIT REQUIREMENTS TAXATION CLEA 1 1 ANCK EXEMPTIONS LISTED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The permit system for overseas travel and special passport requirements are set out in the Overseas Passengers’ Emergency Regulations issued this morning. All persons over the age of 16 years leaving New Zealand in future will require permits from the Department of Internal Affairs.
It is an offence for any shipping or aircraft company to carry from New Zealand any person whose departure would be a breach of the regulations. Every permit tb leave stipulates the destination, name of vessel, port, and date of departure. It must be exercised within one month, at the end of which period it will expire. The permit is subject to revocation at any time.
Before the granting of a permit the Minister of Internal Affairs may call for any security by way of bond or otherwise for the due return to New Zealand of the person concerned. The requirement to taxation clearances must be obtained from the Commissioner of Taxes remains in force.
The following will be exempt from permit requirements. Any person who leaves New Zealand in llis Majesty’s service, Or as a -bona fide member of the crew of any ship or aircraft, or who arrives in and leaves New Zealand in the course of one continuous voyage of any ship or aircraft. Forms for application -may be obtained from the Department of Inferial Affairs, Wellington, for the passport offices in Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin, from the collectors of customs in other ports, and from all shipping companies. Exemptions Provided For
The passport requirements stipulate that every person landing in New Zealand must, produce a passport or other like documents satisfying the collector of customs of his identity and nationality.
In the ease of aliens, jhe passport must bear a valid British visa. The regulations do not apply to (A.) British subjects entering New Zealand from Australia; (B) any person under 16 years of age arriving with his parent: (C) residents of'the Cook Islands or Western Samoa if in possession of permits to travel to New Zealand issued by a competent authority In those territories; (D) New Zealanders returning on a return ticket issued in New Zealand; (E) any member of the naval, military, or air forces; and (F) any seaman whose home is in New Zealand.
There is also provision allowing seamen arriving at New Zealand without passports to be granted temporary permission to land. Wide powers have been given to seize passports if necessary in the cases of persons entering New Zealand, and also to recall any passports which may have been issued in New Zealand.
