RESERVE BANK RETURN

STERLING HIGHER RISE IN ADVANCES TOTAL INCREASED £107,000 (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Reserve Bank return tor the week ended Monday, August 23, was gazetted last night. The statement is balanced at £32,140,439, or £175,427 more than at the close of the previous week.

The sterling exchange reserve, at £5,690,203, is £237,313 greater than the week before. The aggregate level of notes and other demand liabilities is £174,937 higher than on the previous Monday. The ratio has risen from 27.473 per cent to 28.112 per cent. Advances to the Primary Products Marketing Department are £7838 higher, while those for other purposes have increased by £IOO,OOO. There has been a fall of £203,757 in the level of investments.
