FALL FROM TRUCK
RUATORIA FATALITY DEATH OF CONTRACTOR. PASSENGER IN VEHICUE WELL KNOWN IN DISTRICT (Special to the Herald.) RUATORTA, this day. Injuries which caused his instantaneous death were suffered toy a contractor. Herbert Thomas Reynolds, aged 47. married, of 92 Iranui road, Gisborne, when, he fell from a motor lorry in which he was a passenger. The accident occurred late last night.
Mr. Reynolds was travelling in a truck toeing driven toy Mr. Jack Andrews and was returning from Ruatoria to his camp at Mangaporo, where he was carrying out a toridge-touilding contract. The vehicle was travelling along the main'Ruatoria-Tikitiki highway and was in the vicinity of the Mangaporo bridge when the fatality occurred. ' .
Just after the vehicle turned a corner the door flew open and Mr. Reynolds, who was leaning up against the door, was thrown to the road. The truck was pulled up almost immediately, but the severe head injuries which he had suffered resulted in the death of Mr. Reynolds.
Mr. Andrews is of the opinion that the truck passed over the deceased before the driver had time to check it. Mr. Andrews informing the police that he felt a distinct bump as the truck passed over something immediately following Mr. Reynolds’ fall from .the vehicle.
The deceased was a married man and is survived toy his wife and three children, all of whom reside at 92 Iranui road—Mr. Arthur Reynolds and Misses Isabel and Jessie Reynolds.
Mr. Reynolds had carried out a great deal of contracting work in the district and was a well-known figure in building circles. Prior to engaging in business on his own account he was well known, ,as an employee for Mr. Fred. Goodman, and, in this position, worked on ihost of the major undertakings carried out by -Mr. Goodman.
