AUCKLAND, this day

“Britain- to-day is better prepared to defend the idea of the right of selfgovernment than ever before in her history," declared the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, at a civic reception tendered by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. There was a large attendance of all sections of the community. Sir Ernest Davis extended a cordial welcome to Mr. Nash and the Minister of Labour, the Hen. P. C. Webb, and expressed greetings on behalf of Ministerial colleagues. A telegram was read from the Prime Minister, the Rt. lon. M. J. Savage.
