The death occurred this morning of Mr. Alfred Hughes Paterson, aged 42, a solicitor, lie was a member of the Borough Council and a prominent figure in the Presbyterian Church, the Caledonian Society and' debating circles. He was a native of Sydney. He is survived by his wife and four daughters. I-lis brothers are the Rev. John Paterson, Stratford, and the Rev. Mr. Paterson, Oamaru.
