Despite the import restrictions, which have been in force since last December, the Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington continues at a high level. The figures for July showed a sharp decrease, tout for August the total is again high, toeing, with the exception of the figures for June, the highest total collected for any month this year. Revenue from motor spirit and the toeer excise collection show increases, but sales tax and tyre tax arc down. Details, with the figures for August, 1938, in parentheses, are as follows: — Net Customs revenue, £325,785 (£357.925); sales tax, £101.674 (£122.193); toeer excise, £8049 (£5929); motor spirit duty. £46.281 (£42,618); tyre tax, £1395 (£2707).
