FIVE-POWER CONFERENCE
(Reed. Sept. 2, 11.30 a.m.) PARIS, Sept. 1. The French Cabinet has ordered a general mobilisation of the army, placing 6,000,000 men in the field. The French Cabinet met at 10.30 a.m. M. Daladier earlier conferred with M. Bonnet and Marshal Gamelin The French Cabinet sat for two and a half hours, after which a brief communique was issued stating: “The Ministers are firmly and unanimously agreed that France’s promises to back up her Eastern European ally must be kept.” The United Press’ Paris correspondent states that Signor Mussolini has transmitted to France a proposal for a five-Power conference. The highest Polish sources here declare thalt the Polish Government has refused' the proposal.
