“BOMB FOR BOMB"
GERMAN ANSWER FUEHRER’S DECLARATION TIRADE BEFORE REICHSTAG POLISH MOBILISATION REACTION TO PEACE AIM (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Sept. 2, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON,. Sept. 1. Berlin reported that the Reichstag met at 10 a.m. in order to hear a statement' from Herr Hitler. Herr Hitler declared that Germany was prepared to “meet bomb with bomb.” He named Marshal Goering as his successor “should anything happen to me in this struggle.” Herr Hess was named as second heir. New York reports that Herr Hitler, in his broadcast address from the Reichstag, • said that in answer to the “Polish general mobilisation which greeted his last demands,” he had decided to speak to the Poles in the same language in which they were speaking to him. Herr Hitler, addressing the remnant of the Reichstag, over 100 being at. the front said: “Danzig is a German city. The Polish Corridor was and is German. All these territories owe their culture to the German people, without whom the profoundest barbarity would prevail. The German minority was the victim of numerous tortures by Poland after the Great War.
“As always, I have attempted to make many proposals for revision," declared Herr Hitler. “It is a deliberate lie for anyone to suggest that we always try to produce revisions under pressure. I have tried again this time to pursue our demands through peaceful channels. All these proposals have been refused.” "Nothing More Modest”
Herr Hitler then outlined the 16 points of his proposals as announced last night.
’There could be nothing more loyal, I repeat, loyal and modest, than these proposals,” he declared. “I alone was in the position to make such proposals, for I know very well in making them I brought myself into opposition with millions of Germans.
“These proposals have been refused. They were answered not only with mobilisation, but with increased teruor against our Gorman compatriots.
“Poland has a directed its fight against Germany. It did not think about keeping the Obligation to the minorities, whereas we have done so everywhere. No Frenchman can say that the French minority in the Saar has been oppressed. “I, time and time again, have uttered a warning against these developments and I have increased these warnings in the last few days. I have said that if the Poles oppress the minority further and try to destroy Danzig economically and politically, Germany will no longer look on. Determined to Fight “I also have no doubt that the Germany of to-day cannot be compared with the Germany of yesterday. My Government vainly waited for two days for a reply from Poland. We could not put up with such delays and impudence. “I have decided to give Poland no light lesson. We will not hesitate a second in carrying out our duty. “My last attempt at peaceful settlement has been made, although I am convinced that the Polish Government is under th e influence of a Jewish clique and her soldiers are not earnest over the British proposals for negotiation.
“Neutral States have given us assurances of their neutrality, which we respect as long as other do not violate it.”
Referring to the Russo-German pact, Herr Hitler said that mutual non-aggression was the proposal “Germany and Russia fought against each other in the lasit war,” he said “That will not happen a second time “These are our aims: Firstly to solve the Danzig question; secondly, to solve the Corridor question. Thirdly, to ensure a change of relations foetwen Poland and Germany enabling them to live together peaceably
Waited For Two Days
“I, therefore, am determined to fight until the Polish Government is preoared to establish good relations, or until another Government is prepared to do so. I wish to remove once and for all from the German frontiers the element of insecurity and the atmosphere of eternal civil warfare.
“I wish to ensure that peace on the eastern borders does not have a different appearance ‘ from peace on he western borders.
"I have given my air force orders to confine themselves to military objectives in attacking Poland, but if our opponent believes he will be able to fight with other means, we will -rive him such an answer as will stun him.
"Last night Poland was' fighting on our territory. Since 5.45 a.m. we have been shooting back. Every bomb will be answered with bombs. Whoever fights with poison gas will be fought with poison gas.
“This fight, no matter against whom, will be fought until we have secured our rights. “I have worked for six years in building up the German Army. Over 90,000,000,000 marks have been spent in
