SCOTTISH SOCIETY IMPETUS TO DANCING t I A strong balance sheet was reviewed by members of the Gisborne Scottish and Caledonian Society at the annual meeting held this week. Mr. Jamas Crawford was in the chair and presided over a good attendance of members. Following the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the chairman congratulated the society on the year’s activities and made special reference to the healthy state of the Pipe Band fund. The band was reported to be making satisfactory progress under the leadership of Mr. McDonald, while the drumming section was progressing favourably under the leadership of Mr. C. Pridie. With a view to fostering interest in national dancing, the society decided to donate a Challenge Cup for the Sean Trubhias open championship at the forthcoming A. and P- Show. A cash prize of £7 also will be competed for each year. Officers were elected as follows: — Chief, Dr. R. M. Gunn; Chieftains, Messrs. C. C. Aitken, Jcmes Crawford, J. English; secretary, Mr. A. Freebairn; treasurer, Mr. John Crawford; council, Mesdames, A. Freebairn, T. Shield; Misses L. English and V. Fleming; Messrs. A. McDonald, Mackintosh, C. Aitken, W. Findlay, and T. Walker.
