WAIROA CARNIVAL
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES SUPPORT FOR NOMINEES PARTIES AND COMMITTEES (Hornlcl Correspondent.) Activities in connection with the Wairoa centennial queen carnival are absorbing much of the attention of district residents, and during the past week there have been substantial improvements in the financial support for the respective candidates. There was an attendance of over 40 at a crazy whist evening held at Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Marker's residence on Wednesday in honour of the citizens’ queen. After a most enjoyable evening, a dainty supper was served by Mrs. Harker, assisted ’by the ladies’ committee. Prizes were v won by Mrs. Daley, Napier, and Mr. C. McCorkindale. County Candidate A most enthusiastic meeting of Miss Delaney's Maru Maru committee was held on Wednesday at the residence of Mrs. T. Delaney. It was reported that all the activities so far held had been most successful, and it was decided to hold two private parties in the near future. The results from competitions so far held had been very good, and it was decided to launch several more. It was decided to hold another dance in the woolshed of Mr. 11. M. B. deLautour, Opuiti. At a well-attended meeting in the Ardkeen Hall, Miss Delaney’s candidature was further assisted by the formation of a local committee. Mr. P. O'Kane was elected to the chair, and introduced the organiser, Mr. J. Woolf, who spoke on the objects of the campaign. It was decided, on the motion of Mr. P. O’Kane, seconded by Mr. T. T. Hall, to form a committee at Ardkeen to assist the -candidature of tile county queen.
The following were elected: —Chairman, Mr. P. O’Kane; dcppty-chairman, Mr. E. C. Clifton; joint secretaries, Miss V. Eriksen and Mr. P. deLautour; treasurer, Mr. T. T. Hall; publicity steward, Mr. C. G. Warren; catering, Mrs. M. J. Jackson; transport, Mr. T. H. Hall, jun.; general committee, with power to add, Mesdames H. Martin, J. T. McGurk, D. Robertson, C. K. Warren, Misses E. Little, R. .Mitchell, E. Kelliher, A. Gibson, P. Martin, Messrs. J. Hall, B. Hall, S. Christie, E. Eriksen, J. K. Meagher, D. deLautour, C. deLautour, G. Spooner, R. G. Birrell, W. Carson, and R. Preston. It was decided that the first official function would be a dance in the Ardkeen Hall.
