PROFESSOR AIDS RESCUE MONTREAL,'JuIy 9. Professor Stephen Leacock, the well-known author and humorist, who is 69, helped yesterday to rescue a boy who was drowning after his canoe had capsized during a storm on Lake_ Couchiching in the Muskoka district of Ontario. Professor Leacock and two companions had put back to the shore owing to the storm, soon after starting out on a fishing trip. Just as they were anchoring they saw distress signals from the lake and the boy clinging to an overturned canoe half a mile from the shore.

After three attempts to reach him had failed and one of the party had become exhausted, Professor Leacock manned the boat and battled with the gale, while Jack Kelly, his guide, made a lasso.

After several minutes’ struggle Kelly got the rope round the boy and dragged him to, the boat.
