MONTHLY SITTING
WAIROA POLICE COURT .MR. 1 (OXFORD PRESIDES (Special to Hu; Ilcrald.) WAIROA, this day. The monthly sitting of the Wairoa Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday, Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., presiding. Charged with committing a breach of his prohibition order, Jimmy Tahi was convicted and fined £2 and costs. “You might as well try to stop the water from flowing under the bridge as stop the ‘sailor’ from getting liquor. Beer is his God as it were,’’ stated Sergeant D. Clark. John Henry Hodges, charged with a breach of his prohibition order, pleaded not guilty. The defendant was convicted and fined £2 and costs. Kiwi Weko. for allowing a cow to wander on the highway at Whakaki, was fined £1 and costs. Sergeant D. Clark stated that wandering stock on this particular road was becoming a menace. The magistrate said 'he had noticed a good deal of wandering stock on the roads the day* before. Danby William Boyd, charged with . operating a heavy motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 25 miles an hour, was fined £1 10s and costs. John William Park, for operating a heavy motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 25 miles an hour, was fined £1 10s and costs. Borough Traffic Cases The following were charged on the information of the borough traffic inspector, Mr. J. C. Gallagher:— Richard Avon Lane, for having no driving license, was fined 10s and costs. Paul Roia, for driving an unlicensed motor car, was fined £3 and costs; and for having no driving license, fined 10s and costs. Transport Department’s Prosecutions On the information of the Transport Department’s inspectors the following were dealt with:— C. and A. Odlin Timber and Hardware Company, Limited, for operating a heavy motor vehicle when the weight on the front axle was less than 18 per cent of the weight of the vehicle and its load, was convicted and fined £5 and costs. George William Roach, for having no driving license, was fined 10s and 1 costs; and for driving an unlicensed motor car, fined £3 and costs. Charged with operating a heavy motor vehicle when the weight on the front axle was less than 18 per cent of the weight of such vehicle and its load, K. Sterling, Limited, was convicted and ordered to pay costs.
