DEFENCE OF PACIFIC

U.S. MAY PLAY PART INTEREST IN DOMINION , (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day.

“I think America is determined to play a very important part in defence in. the Pacific,” said the Minister c-f Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, “but I have no authority for saying that.” Mr. Nash met .President Roosevelt and members of the .State Department and Treasury with a view to paving the way ultimately for a reciprocal trade treaty. The interest taken in the Dominion by the Government and the people of the United States was increasing, and is expected to be greatly stimulated by the linking of the two countries by .Pan-American Airways’ service.

Mr. Nash also,visited Canada, where, after a conference with the Minister of Trade, Mr. W. ,D. Euler, the existing trade treaty was extended for another year. Mr. Euler expressed his willingness to examine means to increase Canada’s purchases of New Zealand products.
