SEVEN MEASURES LOCAL BILLS DEALT WITH AFTERNOON IN HOUSE EVENING DEBATE CONTROL OF TRANSPORT (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The House of Representatives was in working mood yesterday and during the afternoon sitting disposed of seven out of nine local ibills on the order paper. Of the remaining two, one, the Auckland Transport Board Rating Exemption Bill, was discharged owing to an unfavourable recommendation of the Local Bills Committee, while the Wanganui Harbour District and Empowering Amendment Bill was under consideration when the House adjourned for dinner.

The whole of the evening session was devoted to a consideration of the Transport Law Amendment Bill, the second-reading speech of the Minister of Transport, the- Hon. R. 'Semple, 1 occupying an hour' He reiterated his oft-repeated statements that the highways must be cleared of reckless motorists, and explained legislation that dealt with intoxicated drivers. He was subjected to a running Are cyf interjections when explaining the clause providing for the registration of cycles, rind during the debate that followed 'Opposition, members were critical of the new provision, Mr. S. G. Holland (Nat., Christchurch North), by way of interjection, alleging that the children’s money boxes were being raided.

The debate was not completed when the House adjourned at 10.30 p.m.
