IN PEACE OR WAR
CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION DECISION TO CONTINUE APPROVAL OF CABINET SOME CHANGES POSSIBLE (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Whether the coming weeks bring peace or war, the Centennial Exhibition will still take place. This decision reached by the exhibition directors and approved by Cabinet was announced yesterday by the chairman, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington. He pointed out that the exhibition was practially ready, that it was essential that in wartime national activities should be disrupted as little as possible, and that the whole purpose of the exhibition, in inspiring a national feeling of pride and patriotism, was of even greater importance in war than in peace.
Asked if any modifications would have to be made, Mr. Hislop replied that there was a possibility that the Welsh Guards Band might not be permitted to come to the exhibition in the event of war. In that event, arrangements would be' made to secure the services of another really outstanding band. The question, however, need not be discussed until it actually arose. He did not think there would be any other, alterations of importance.
