SIX GRACIES PROMINENT
ONE LATELY IN GISBORNE
A family which has done much for hockey in New Zealand is tire Grade brothers. There are seven brothers in the family, and six of them have made hockey their hobby and recreation. Not only did they .play hockey n their youth, but they have given the .game the 'benefit of their experience and business ability in administrative posts as some compensation for the pleasure they received as active players.
Ralph Grade was manager of one of the New Zealand teams which visited Australia. He is a member of the New Zealand Hockey Association, a member of the council and a member of the interpretations committee. He was formerly a North Island representative.
Wallace Grade was a member of the New Zealand eleven which played against the first Indian eleven to visit the Dominion. He has since been an umpire.
Fred Grade was president of the Waikato Association and the Waikato Ladies’ Association. He was also selector and manager of various touring Waikato teams, and he toured New Zealand as manager of the New South Wales team. He is now in New South Wales, and has resumed his interest in the game.
Alex and Harry Grade both played for South Canterbury, and have since acted as umpires.
Douglas Gracie has been president, secretary, and selector of the Poverty Bav association. He was the manager of “the 1937 Poverty Bay team which was just beaten by Auckland 5—4 ; He is president of the Waikato Ladies Association and vice-chairman of the men's management committee. He is also sole selector for tire Waikato men's representative team this year.
