SURVEY FLIGHT ENDS ARRIVAL OF CLIPPER HOP FROM NOUMEA RETURN ON SATURDAY (Por Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Pan-American Airways’ giant Boeing plane, California Clipper, on a survey of the San Francisco-Auck-land route arrived over the city at 2 15 this afternoon on completion of her final hop from Noumea, New Caledonia. The Clipper made the landfall at North Cape shortly before 1.30 p.m. Large crowds assembled at the air base at Mechanics’ Bay. the roadways being thickly lined with cars. A biting westerly wind made waiting conditions uncomfortable and the waters of the bay were choppy. The Clipper left Noumea at 7.5 a.m. New Zealand time, when favourable weather for the trip was forecast, At 10.5 a.m. she reported having passed over Norfolk Island, to which she deviated for survey purposes. Forty minutes later she had reached the half-way mark on the 1117 miles Right from Noumea to Auckland. The Clipper will probably leave Auckland on Saturday morning for San Francisco, making overnight stops at the various bases. She will probably return to Auckland within a fortnight from Saturday, since the Right completed to-day marks the start of the fortnightly schedule.
