TRAINING RECRUITS
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day.
“It was a very satisfactory interview,” said Mr. Arnold Ely, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, after his return from Wellington, where a deputation- of Auckland business men interviewed the acting Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Eraser, on defence.
“We were well received and greatly appreciated the Minister’s statement, He gave us information 'we were not previously aware of in relation to the steps taken for the defence of the country. At the same time he urged us to remind ourselves of the stress of the present international situation, which made it impossible for the, Government to make public every defence measure.
“Mr. Eraser said the Government would 'give every consideration to the point we stressed most strongly, namely, the adoption of more intensive training for those who have so loyally offered their services to the country.”
