ROCKED AIRLINER

MAGINOT LINE INCIDENT PILOT CHANGES COURSE LONDON, Aug. IG. When an explosion rocked Imperial Airways’ airliner Fortuna, carrying nine passengers from Zurich to Croydon, the pilot saw shrapnel burst near the plane. He immediately radioed to Strasbourg, giving his bearings, and was informed that he was flying over a re-cently-prohibited part of the Maglnot Line. He promptly changed his course.

If is believed that the French antiaircraft gunners failed to recognise the Fortuna, because British Airways planes, which are of a different type, have hitherto flown on this service. The French War Office apologised for the incident.
