FAT SHEEP VALUES

CATTLE PRICES HIGHER .ADDINGTON MARKET (For Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A feature of the Addington stock sale yesterday was the spectacular rise in values of Cat sheep, due to the short entry. The improvement for the best wethers was up to 10s a head, and for the best ewes to Bs. The offering of store sheep was under ICOO head. There was a steady demand for better class sheep, late rates being maintained. A pen of good two-tooth wethers sold at 10s, a pen of medium sorts at 12s 4d, a truckload of two-tooth halfbred ewes at 225, and small ewe hoggets at 12s 3d. An entry of between 250 and 300 fat sheep was the smallest for some time. Following the small entry last week, there was a distinct shortage, and an exceptional advance in values followed. Numerous pens of wethers ranged from about 47 to 50s, and ewes from about 36s to 38s extra prime heavy wethers to 54s Id, prime heavy 42s to 4Gs, prime medium 37s to 41s, and light to 28s; extra prime heavy ewes to 42s lOd, prime heavy 34s to 375, prime medium 31s to 335, and light 21s to 245. The entry of 330 fat cattle was the smallest of the season. The sale opened with a sharp advance on the rales of last week, averaging about 25s a head for prime medium-weights. There was an improvement in cases to 30s a head. Good beef averaged 44s to 4Gs per 1001 b., and there was little of quality that ruled at less than 40s. Extra prime heavy steers made to 121 2s Gd. prime heavy £l6 15s to £l7 15s, prime medium £l4 10s to £IG 10s, and light to £ll ss; extra prime heifers to £IG 2s Gd, prime £ll 10s to £l3, medium £lO to £ll ss, and light to £9 15s; extra prime cows to £ls 12s Gd, prime £lO 5s to £l2 ss, medium £8 to £lO, and light to £7 15s.

The yarding of porkers was the smallest for some time and prices advanced by about 2s to 3s a head. Choppers came forward in medium supply and again met with good competition. There was a medium-sized entry of baconers and the sale compared favourably with last week, which was the best of the season. Porkers made from £2 Is Gd to £3 0s ! Gd, the average price being 7d to 7:Jd per lb., and baconers £3 5s Gd to £5 os Gd, the average price being G.fd to 7:|d per lb: Choppers made from £3 11s to £6 Is.
