Messages from Tokio quote a semiofficial Japanese statement to the effect that large-scale engagements commenced; during the week-end with the object of crushing the twin Soviet-Mongol thrusts towards Manchukuo at fhe confluence of the Khalkagol River and! also south-west of the Noro Heights. The Japanese are now tightening the cordon around the invaders.
The War Office claims to have bombed and 1 wrecked 135 Russian tanks in the (Manohuk-uo fighting. Terrific artillery duels are ing.
