TEMPORARILY CLOSED . MEDITERRANEAN ROUTE ORDER TO LEAVE BALTIC BRITISH MERCHANT SHIPS (Elec. Tel. Copyright —United Press Assn.) (Reed. August 29, 11 a.m.) LONDON, August 28. The British Admiralty has made the following announcement:— “The Mediterranean is temporarily closed to British merchant shipping. Ships already in the Mediterranean should continue their voyages, ■while ships bound -into the Mediterranean from the Atlantic should call at Gibraltar and await orders. “Ships in the Red Sea should proceed tb Suez or Aden. “Ships bound for . the Red Sea from the Indian Ocean should proceed .to Aden and await orders. “No ships are to visit Italian ports. Ships leaving the Black Sea are to remain in the Sea of Marmora.” British' shipping has also been Ordered to leave the Baltic.
An Admiralty order forbids ships to use radio transmitters, regardless Of nationality, in tidal waters of Britain and Northern Ireland. The Admiralty has arso ordered the darkening of all ships in Harbours where air raid precautions arc in force. The visibility of navigation lights is limited to two miles and this is permitted only when there is danger of collision.
