SYMPATHY STRIKE

THOUSAND MINERS IDLE WAIKATO COLLIERIES SECRETARY NONPLUSSED (Pel- Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Apparently as a gesture of sympathy to the men who have stopped work at Glen Afton and MacDonald coal mines, shifts at the Wilton (Glen Massey) Renown, Rotowaro and Pukemiro shafts were idle yesterday. Approximately 1000 men are now affected. The secretary of the Miners’ Union, Mr. T. Hall, said he did not know why the men had gone out. Nothing had arisen to prevent their going back to work.

A mass meeting of miners called by Mr. Hall was to be held in the Town Hall this afternoon to consider the position. A statement from the secretary will be forthcoming as soon as possible.
