Backblocks Patriot

Indications that ex-servicemen are following, the developments! of the international situation closely and preparing to take their -pant in any crisis,, have been forthcoming from a number of sources in the district. One backblodcs Digger who served with the New Zealand Mounted Rifles in the Great War forwarded to the headquarters of the Gisborne Returned Soldiers’ Association to-day the following message:—“Prepared to come at once. Can supply own horse and saddle." The terms of the message left officers of the association in doubt as to whether the veteran has been studying a newspaper published before the week-end, and 1 just received by him. or whether he had received some information over the air which seemed more grave even than the press news available.
