EARL HAIG’S COMMISSION

LONDON, Aug. 7. Earl Haig, who succeeded to his title on the death of his father, FieldMarshal Earl Haig, has been granted a commission in the Scots Greys, with the rank of second-lieutenant. The announcement appeared in the London Gazette of August 4, the anniversary of the date on which Britain declared war on Germany. FieldMarshal Haig (then Sir Douglas Haig) was from 1915 to the end of hostilities, Commander-in-Chief of the British forces in France and Flanders.
