HARBOUR BOARD RETURNS

An improvement of £660 in the revenue, and a decrease of £B2O in expenditure, was shown in a return presented! to the Gisborne Harbour Board yesterday by Mr. !R. R. Baldrey, acting secretary-manager, and covering the 10 months completed on July 31,

Imports of good® increased by 1873 tons for July, to a total of 7836 tons; and exports increased by 236 tons, to 2i95 tons. The 10 months showed inward cargo at 61,256 tons, an increase of 4671 tons; and exports increased by 529 tons to a total of 30,957 tons.

Cash statement figures for the 10 months were as under: — Receipts (excluding rales on land). —Ship charges, 1938-39, £4666 (193738, £5407); wharfage, £17,174 (£15,868); harbour improvement rate, £6539 (£5876); rent, £5222 (£5632); launch hire, £SOO (£459); sale of plant, etc., £23 (£122); miscellaneous, £1236 (£1336); total, £35,360 (£34,700). This shows an increase of £660 in receipts. Receipts in rates on land 1 during the 10 months ended July 31, 1939, amounted to £33,908, against £37,279 for the same period in the previous year, while current rates collected during the rebate neriod this year amounted to £27,295, out of '£36,000 struck, against £29*677 collected out of £38,688 struck last year. Revenue receipts from all sources for the 10 months ended July 31, 1939, amounted to £69,268.

•Expenditure. fund and bank charges, 1938-39, £58.947 (1937-38, £58,834); new plant, buildings, etc., £sl (£767); grab dredging, £3012 (£3148); general expenditure, £10,262 (£10,343); total, £72,272 (£73,092). This shows a decrease of £B2O in expenditure.
