Miss Isabel Sharpies, M.R.A.D. (London), 'left this morning to spend a fortnight’s holiday in Hawke’s Bay after a most successful' week at the recent Gisborne Competitions festival. The places gained by her pupils were 18 firsts, 14 seconds, 11 thirds, and three very highly commends.
Miss Creed Meredith, principal of ..he Narowal Mission School, Punjab, India, who is on furlough, is staging with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L. Meredith, Wi Pere street. Misg Meredith is making her first visit to the Southern Hemisphere and intends visiting Marlborough prior to sailing from Auckland by the s.s. Rangitane on September 23, en route to Ireland.

Mrs. IL Reeves and her small daughter have returned to Tolaga Bay after spending a week with the former’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. R. McKenzie Gunn, Wainui road.
Keen interest is centring in the fair to be held in the Parish Hall, Derby street, on Friday, to raise funds for the Ileni Materoa Children's Home. For some time an active committee, under the direction of Mrs. 11. L. Primrose, has had the arrangements well in hand, and all manner of wares, including small goods, cakes, sweets and produce will be offered for sale. A Punch anc’ Judy show, always a delight to both young and old, will be among the attractions.
Patutahi Golf Club’s Annual Ball
The Patutahi Hall ‘presented a gay •cene on Thursday -evening, when the Patutahi Golf Club held its annual ball, ’hose who worked so hard being congratulated on the unqualified success of the evening.
A -merry crowd of dancers attended and Mrs. Thomson’s orchestra provided the music. Tree ferns and greenery ntermingled with .wattle were used to affectively decorate the hall. The tables in the supper room were decorated with vases of Iceland mppies, maidenhair fern and other •pring blooms. The ladies of the dub had provided a sumptuous supper. During the supper interval extras were played bv Mr. Stuart Skeet.
