18,000 TERRITORIALS
TRAINING OF RESERVE

“Everything is prepared for eventualities,” stated the acting-Primc Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, following a meeting of the Defence Council which lasted throughout the morning.
The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, who was also interviewed, stated there were 18,000 territorials at the present time. As far >as personnel was concerned, the Defence Department considered it now had sufficient men to provide fairly well for ithe defence of the Dominion.
“We are training as many men as possible as instructors,” added the Minister, “and a number of reserve officers and non-commissioned officers have been brought in for a refresher course. They will be available for the instruction of the military reserve class No. 1.” BELGIAN SECURITY (Reed. August 26, 2.40 p.m.) BRUSSELS, August 25. The Belgium Cabinet has decided on immediate security measures in order “to place the country in a condition of active'defence.”
