CANADIAN DECLARATION READY TO JOIN BRITAIN PLEAS BY MR. KING HITLER, POLAND, ITALY (Reed. Aug. 28, 9 a.m.) OTTAWA. Aug. 26. The Canadian Prime Minister, Mr. W. L. (Mackenzie King, has appealed to Herr Hitler, M. Moscicki, and Signor Mussolini to “prevent 'the impending disaster and catastrophe.” In the .first public declaration that Canada stood ready to join Britain if war breaks out, Mr. Mackenzie Kings messages said that Canadians were prepared to “join wha’t authoiity and power they may possess to that of other nations of the British commonwealth in seeking'a /*ist and amicable settlement of the great problems with which ’the nations are faced.” The appeals were transmitted yesterday but were not announced until to-day to assure their being received before being published in Canada. The Minister of Defence, Mr. lan Mackenzie, announced that “certain portions of the Canadian militia aie being called out for duty on a voluntary basis” to bolster up the permanent force in manning the coastal defences and guarding certain vulnerable points.
