CITY BOYCOTT OF BEER
WATERSIDERS SUPPORTED BASIN RESERVE ASSEMBLY (Par Preis Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The stand taken by sections of workers to boycott hotels till the price of beer was reduced was reaffirmed at a meeting held in" the Basin Reserve yesterday. The grandstand was filled with those actually involved in the strike and with sympathisers. Appeals were made by six speakers, who included representatives of other sections of workers who had decided to join up with the waterside workers in their action to ensure that full effect was given to the resolutions carried. Those present also expressed in no uncertain terms their determination to carry the strike through. Commendation of the boycott by the Waterside workers was expressed at a largely-attended meeting of the Wellington branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants held in Wellington yesterday and* the following motion was carried: “That this meeting of the Wellington branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, representing 1000 members, desires to congratulate the watersiders in instituting a boycott of beer. We call on our membership to show solidarity with the watersiders till the price is reduced. We also request the Minister of Industries and Commerce to see that publicans are brought within the scope of the Weights-ahd-Measures Act as far as it affects them.”
