THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General Situation.—A weak anticyclone is centred south-east of the South Island, while the pressure is low over the Dominion and Tasman Sea. However, there is no important disturbance located in the Now Zealand area. Forecast. —Winds, moderate westerlies in the north and moderate to fresh north-easterlies on the CanterburyOtago coasC otherwise winds light and variable. Seas in New Zealand waters rough south of Banks Peninsula, elsewhere slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman moderate fresh westerly winds and moderate seas. Expect weather to be dull in eastern districts from Cook Strait southwards, with rain or drizzle probably continuing elsewhere. Weather mainly fair, but with scattered showers still likely, more especially in the north. Temperatures moderate to mild. To-day’s North Island Report Barometer readings showed a recovery this' morning at most North Island stations, indicating a continuation of settled conditions. Temperatures generally were mild, with' Cape Maria van Diemen returning 55
degrees, Auckland 53, East Cape 52, and Gisborne and l Napier 45, the last* named two readings being the coldest recorded at 0 «.m. Winds. of ligliv force were generally from the northerly quarter, with calms at Napier and Wellington. Overcast conditions prevailed generally, Tiritiri reporting also passing showers. Visibility was good to excellent, however, and sea conditions were good, with the exception of rough seas al Castlepoint, Midday Forecast General situation: Shallow depressions eontinua to cross the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. An anticyclone is located to the southeast. Forecast: Variable winds with light to moderate north-easterlies to north - westerlies predominating.
