Farewell Morning Tea

Yesterday morning, Mrs. 11. W. T. Buckley and Mrs. J. W. Fergie combined in giving a charmingly-arranged tea party at the home of the former in Iranui road as a farewell to Mrs. S. L. Dryland, who is leaving shortly for Auckland.

Shaded Iceland poppies, violets and i'reesias were chosen for the adornment of the drawing-room, and the artistic decorative note was repeated in the dining-room, where a delectable morning tea was served informally. Mi’s. Buckley was wearing an elegant frock of navy blue taffetas accented with a cyclamen pink shoulder flower, and Mrs. Fergie wore a becoming frock of black wool georgette embroidered in matching beads. A number of friends gathered at the home of Mrs. C. G. Henzler, Roebuck road, on Tuesday night, to celebrate the coming-of-age of Mr. Kenneth Henzler.

Bowls of artistically arranged spring flowers gave a festive air to the drawing-room, and a large fire offered a pleasant contrast to the wintry weather out-of-doors.

Games, competitions and community singing provided entertainment in variety for the guests. - A savoury supper was served informally in the flower-decked break-fast-room.

A delightful all-day party was held recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Douglas, Childers road, as a farewell to Miss Molly Ferguson, who has since returned to Wellington. The rooms were gay with Iceland poppies and violets and log fires radiated comfort. : A buffet luncheon was served in the dining-room, daffodils being used with artistic effect in the decoration of -file Role.

The hostess was wearing a graceful frock of navy blue faille with cherry red accents.

who is to be married shortly. The decorations in the drawingroom [were artistically carried out vith .freesias and arum lilies. Several amusing competitions were entered into with enthusiasm and the winners, Mrs. Leach and Misses Malcolm, Ledger andi F. Ryan, were each suitably rewarded. A delicious supper was served informally, and later a box of gifts was presented to the bride-to-be, who opened the numerous parcels, assisted by her prospective bridesmaid, Miss . ledger.

The recipient made a happy little speech of thanks, after which the guests joined in singing “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Mrs. Salt, who in her part of hostess was assisted by her daughter, Mrs. Westmoreland, was wearing a graceful frock of black georgette, with a coatee to tone.

Mrs. Westmoreland wore a becoming Hrock of black taffetas, and a coatee of white fur. The guest of honour was becomingly frocked in navy blue cloque. Children’s Party The delightful children's party given recently by Mrs. J. Forshaw, at her home in Cook- street, celebrated a dual event, the respective birthdays of ber son and daughter, Jim (Midge), and Peggy. The sun shbne brightly, and the animated scene on the lawn was watched by a number of grownups, who thoroughly enjoyed the fun.

Decorations of Iceland poppies and coloured balloons lent a festive air to the dining-room, and here a gay company* sat down tb a party tea. The table, laden with all the good things dear to childhood, was artistically adorned with shallow bowls o. violets, and quaint favours were effectively arranged round the two handsome birthday cakes, surmounted with six and seven candles, respectively. Sprays of delicately-tinted peach blossom beautified the drawing-room, where all sorts of jolly musical games were entered into with enthusiasm later in the afternoon. Dance at ‘ 1 Ulverstone ’ ’ Last night Miss Muriel Barker entertained a large number of friends at a delightful dance at her charming riverside home.

The various reception rooms were gay with masses of spring flowers, and large log fires offered a cheery welcome to the guests.

Violets, Iceland poppies, freesias and daffodils predominated in the adornment of the drawing-room and the artistic decorative scheme was repeated in the lounge. Calendulas lent a note of colour to the dining-room, and in the morningroom, where supper was served, a crystal bowl of richly-tinted Iceland poppies beautified the table. In the ballroom, advantageouslyplaced bowls of delicately-tinted pink camellias stood out in striking contrast against the ivory-shaded walls.

Mrs. Vincent Barker welcomed her daughter’s guests, wearing an elegant frock of sapphire blue ring velvet accented with a corsage posy of Parma violets.

The hostess wore a smart frock of leaf green chiffon, over matching taffetas, cut on graceful lines. Mrs. V. T. C. Savage, Waimata Valley, wore a charming modified Empire frock of white stiffened chiffon printed in soft tones of blue, fuchsia and green, and Mrs. Neven Kerr, Hexton, was becomingly frocked in bronze tulle mounted on brown net.

Coming-of-age Dance A delightful dance was given by Mr. and Mrs. F. Clarke, F-itzherbert street, in Messrs. Findlay’s reception rooms, cn Monday night, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their youngest daughter, Miss Winifred Clarke.

The occasion afforded a large number of friends a very pleasant opportunity of conveying their good wishes to the celebrant, who also received congratulatory telegrams from Wellington, Hur.tly and Tokomar-u Bay.

The supervision, of the floor was efficiently carried 1 out -by Mr. J. Thorburn, and Mr. A. Pilkington supplied the music, extras being contributed by Messrs. H. Patterson -and A. Webster.

A delectable supper was served at tables artistically decorated- with shaded Iceland poppies, and the customary toasts were honoured 1 under the direction pf Mr. A. Webster. Effeetively decorated with princess blossom and delicate greenery, the reception'room at Messrs. Findlay’s was en fete on Thursday night, when Mr. and Mrs. R. Jenkins, Russell street, gave a delightful dance in celebrai.on c-f the coming of age of their only daughter. Miss Betty Jenkins. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. A. Jukes, and the programme was interspersed with games and competitions. The music for dancing was supplied by Miss G. Gooch, piano, and Mr. J. Gooch* drums, and extras were contributed by Mr. N. Redstone. During the evening, Miss Betty Baillie was heard to advantage in a vocal number, Miss Nancy Marton playing her accompaniment. A diverting competition was entered into with enthusiasm, and the winner, Mrs. Norman Beattie, was suitably rewarded. Another source of amusement was an “Oljunphic” Shield game, which was won by Mr. J. Morrison’s team, and Miss E. Livingston and Mr. j., -vve.e tiia pr.ze-.winners in a Monte Carlo waltz contest.

Iceland poppies and jonquils were used with artistic effect in the decoration of the supper table, the handsome pink primrose birthday cake, adorned with a gold key and an intriguing ladder of 21 steps, forming an effective centrepiece. Toasts Honoured

Mr. L. Simpson acted as toastmaster, and, following the loyal toast, the health of the celebrant was proposed by -Mr. B. Dudfiei-d, Mr. A. Jukes responding. A toast to the host and hostess, proposed by Mr. W. Jackson, was acknowledged by Mr. Jenkins, who later presented his daughter with a golden key as a symbol of the attainment of her majority, the guests greeting the ceremony with the singing of “She’s Twenty-one To-day.” Mrs. Jenkins was wearing a graceful frock of black and white printed French chiffon accented with a corsage posy of violets, and a coatee of black taffetas. , Miss Jenkins looked charming in a frock of cerulean blue blistered cloque, worn with a cerise coatee and shoes to match.
