RESPECTED FARMER
MR. EDWARD ELLMERS .DEATH AT 73 YEARS HALF-CENfURY IN BAY
The death occurred in a private tspital in Gisborne today of Mr. ward) Ellmers, a respected and well-known member of rtlhie sheepfarming community who had spent Sft years in the Gisborne district. Mr. Ellmers had been ill for some time, arid his death was not unexpected. I)eep sympathy in their loss will be extended to Mrs. Ellmers and members of her family. . ,Born in Lincoln, Canterbury, Mr. Ellmers spent his boyhood there, and gained a general farming experience before moving to the North Island. He married in Foxton 50 years ago Miss Ada Mary Moss, and came to Gisborne almost immediately afterwards. They settled first in the Wairiioka Valley, near Whangara, and spent' several years there. Subsequently they took up land ait Hangafoa, arid 1 froip. 1910 Mr. Ellmers practiced a system of hill-country farming which yielded substantial results. In 1918, he acquired a.smaller property at Patutahi,. retaining his BTangaroa station, and the farm on the flats became the.family residence. Mr.. Ellmers was chairman of the Patutahi Town Board for several terms. Successful Farmer By. those who knew him and his metfibds, Mr. Ellmers was regarded as One of the most successful farmers in the district, and his knowledge of Stock and land values was of considerable aid to many of his neighbours. Upright in character, and generous in an unostentatious way, Be will be much .missed in the community in which he lived for so many years. , , P Mr. Bittners is survived by Mrs. Ellmers and four . sons and five daughters, these .being Mr. William Ellmers, MaJawal, Mr. ..Arthur Ellmers, Patutahi, Mr, Kenneth Ellmers, Gkiborne, Mr. iMalcblim Ellmers, Hangaroa, Mrs. 0. Cosgrove, Auckland, Mrs- F. Tofiks,. What a,tutu, Mrs. E, Brenkley, Masterton, Mrs. C. Morrison, • .Makaiaka, and Mrs. W. Rickard, Manutuke. The one surviving sister of the deceased is Mrs. 'E. Elvy, 19 Collins street, Gisborne,..., The funeral will leave that address to-morrow for .the Taruheru cemetery, following a service at 2.15 p.m.-.
