NAZI PROPAGANDA
ACCUSATION OF POLES “PLANNING ATTACK” DANZIG COUP PLOTTED CALL FOR “PROTECTION” (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Presi Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 26, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 25.
A message from Berlin quotes the official German News Agency as stating: “It is now certain that the Poles arc planning to attack German territory. The Polish troop concentrations and military preparations are in no way defensive. The Poles r ave brought up much cavalry within striking distance of the border. Three Polish assault divisions and an armoured brigade are concentrated at the Prussian frontier. Preparations are noticeable in Upper Silesia.” Germany’s shifting tactics are easily discernible in her training every available propaganda gun on Poland’s imminent “invasion” 1 of Danzig. A hint of a revival of last year’s methods preceding the Sudentenland 'question was given overnight. A full blast was released in tlie morning newspapers throughout Germany. It was clear that an intensive campaign was being prepared, as cars overnight carried propaganda officials between the Chancellery and Dr. Goebbels’ office. The German newspapers carried headlines stating: “Advance on own initiative!” “Polish army refuses to obey Warsaw.” Design to Lay Blame The British United Press sees- in this possibly the last phase' of propaganda designed to lay the blame on Poland when Germany marches in “to restore order from chaos.” Those well-informed in Berlin declare that Herr Foerster’s appointment to the Presidency of Danzig has already removed Danzig from relationship with Poland, but it is only the first step aimed at the restoration of the Free City. They asserted that Herr Foerster would next announce Danzig to be part of Germany and would call on Herr Hitler to help against the Polish army, exactly repeating the role of Seyss Inquart in Austria.
A Warsaw message states that ’the German reports of vast Polish troop concentrations on the Danzig frontier are described as “inventions in order to suggest that Poland is the aggressor.”
Poland has protested against the Danzig 'Senate’s elevation of Herr Foerster and t'he confiscation of a Polish munitions train yesterday.
