Mr. Fred Hamilton, jun., Nelson, is visiting Gisborne arid will return south early next week, Mr. B. J. Climo, Gisborne, has been appointed to the executive committee of the Dominion Federated Sawmillers’ Association.
Miss J. Deighton, of the teaching staff of the Wairoa District High •School, has received advice of her transfer to the Kopuawhara SchoolSpecial.
Mr. A. G. Elliott, crop experimentalist, Department of Agriculture, Wellington, is on a visit 'to G'isiborne, and will stay in the district for several days.
Mr. Thos Corson was appointed by the Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board yesterday as its representative on the general committee of the Gisborne and District Beautifying Society. ,
Commissioner George Carpenter, who has been elected 1 to be the new General of the Salvation Army, in succession to •General Evangeline Booth, is an Australian by birth and has seen many years 1 of service With the organisation. Before his appointment to Canada, he was chief secretary of the eastern territory of Australia, and before that he served: at I.H.Q. as head! of the literary department. He married Miss Minnie Rowelil in 1899. Mrs. Carpenter is the author of "Miriam Booth,” “The Angel Adjutant,” “Three Great Hearts,” "Commissioner Hawley,” “Notable Officers of the Salvation Army,” and l “Commissioner Henry Howard.”
