AUCTIONEER RETIRES

MR. JAMES EIVERS LONG TERM IN DISTRICT After being in the service of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, for many years, Mn James Eivers is retiring from 'his position as auctioneer for the firm. Mr. •Eivers’ retirement will take place from August 31. Mr. C. H. Wells will assume the duties of auctioneer on September 1, andi will be assisted by Mr. Victor Goddard, who is being transferred from Papakura. The retirement of Mr. Eivers follows a life-long' association, witfh stock in the Gisborne district, both in the saddle at station work in his younger days and then as auctioneer for the firm. He has held the latter position .for many years.

His intimate knowledge oij stock and his executive ability soon won recognition outside his own particular work, and as a member of the Poverty Bay A. and 1 P. Association his services were highly valued. In 1935 he was elected vice-president of the association, 'and he succeeded to the presidency in 1929, retiring from the position in 1932. Mr. Wells, who is succeeding Mr. Eivers as auctioneer for the New Zealand Loan and! Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has been in the firm’s' Gisborne office for a number of years, and is well known in the district.
