Last Night’s Forecast

General situation,—A series of minor disturbances' have been crossing New Zealand, but the deep depression in 'the southern Tasman Sea remains almost stationary ancl is beginning to lose intensity. Forecast: Winds northerly to northwesterly predominating over the North Island and north-easterly over the South Island, mainly moderate but freshening in exposed positions. Weather: Occasional scattered rain or drizzle still probable in most districts, but otherwise mainly fair to cloudy: fog is likely, ‘however, on parts of the east coast of the South Island. Temp,erasures: Mild 1 in the north, moderate in the south. To-day's North Island Forecast

The barometric pressure at all North Island stations dropped sharply overnight and the 9 o’clock reading at most points was 29.38 in., which is a low level. The temperature's at 9 a.m. were similar to those of yesterday, with East Cape the warmest spot. The readings were: East Cape 60 degrees, Cape Maria Van Diemen, Auckland, Tiritiri and Tauranga 55, Gisborne 54, Castlepoint 53, Opotiki, Ca.pe Palliscr and Wellington 52 and Napier 50. The weather was calm at Cape Maria Van Diemen, Auckland and Wellington, with light variable winds at other places. Conditions, practically everywhere, were more overcast than yesterday and the only towns that reported blue skies were Auckland and Tauranga. The visibility generally was .good, though at Castlepoint the range was 1000yds. The seas were smooth to moderate, but at Castlepoint, where rough conditions were reported a few days ago, big seas were again reported. Heavy rain was experienced at Opotiki, and heavy showers at a number of othei places. Midday Forecast General Situation: A weak disturbance is crossing the North Island, while a more intense one is remaining stationary to the west ft the South Island. Forecast.
