TAILSHAFT UNDAMAGED

AMERICAN MOTOR SHIP , INSPECTION IN DOCK (Per Press Association.), AUCKLAND, this day. After a thorough survey in Calliope Dock, it has been found that no fracture has occurred in the tailshaft of the 6000-ton American Pioneer Line motor ship Tampa.

Repairs are now being completed to the ship, which should leave the dock On Sunday and, after making harbour trials, she will sail in the afternoon for Norfolk, Virginia and other American and Canadian ports.

The Tampa, en route from Sydney to Norfolk, was diverted to Auckland last week with a sick officer, and experienced trouble with her tailshalt in very heavy weather when near port. The vessel entered dock last Friday, and three days were spent in removing the 11-ton single screw before an examination of the tailshaft could be conducted.
