AUGUST TOURNAMENT AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP C. Hi WELLS’ GOOD ROUND / (Per Press Association.) ROTORUA, this day. Playing in the opening rounds of the Rotorua Golf Club’s annual open amateur championship yesterday, <-■ H. Wells, Gisborne, shared the lead ivith H. D. Brinsden, both having net' scores of 147 for the two rounds bf the course. . "Wells had a fair round in the morning, with 75 net, and improved Substantially in the afternoon, when he went round in /2. ® ri P £de j morning figure was 76, but he did even better than Wells latei, and i-eturned 71. The pair were one stroke better than F. C. Hutchinson, Wanganui, for the two rounds, Hutchinson being one of ithe players who was expected to show up well. E. S. Toogood, Gisborne, took lad for the morning and afternoon rounds, his afternoon round being the better. H e qualified for the Championship. A. Barns-Graham was (mother championship qualifier, with h total of 156 W. R. B. Willock, 160, hnd J. S. Barns-Graham, 165, Qualified for the Thermal Cup handicap, and M. R. Maude and ' W. Barns-Graham qualified for the flight handicap, - with 173 and 180 resp
