FIRE PROTECTION PLANT ROOM IN RUATORIA COURT CONTRT BUTION OPPOSED (Special to tin* Herald.) TE PUIA, this day. At a meeting of the Waiapu Hospital Board, a letter from the Health Department recommended the views of the recent conference of experts in regard to fire protection. They recommend hydraulic hose reels in all hospital wards and also in kitchens, laundries and stores, while fire-resisting doors should be arranged for. Hospital boards were advised to see that every bedroom had an outside fire escape with stairways of a reasonable grade. The chairman, Mr. A. J. IT. Kirkham. pointed out that fire-protection had been considered in detail, and certain precautions already had been taken. The board decided to ask the department what type of water fire-fighting appliances should be purchased in view of the lack of pressure. Ruatoria Consulting Room The Director-General of the Health advised that he did not consider the Health Department should be called upon to contribute towards the annual rental to be charged for the doctor’s consulting room, which is to be incorporated in the proposed new courthouse in Ruatoria. The tender of D. G. Doig for the re-erection of a new gas holder was accepted, the price being £94. Further correspondence was received in connection with the water softening plant. It was decided to purchase the one submitted by Messrs. J. J. Niven and Company. Limited.

The .secretary reported the donation of £l3 from the proceeds of the Lucky Charm art union. Gifts Acknowledged

The Matron, Miss I. L. Cornish, acknowledged the gift of old, linen from Mrs. Watt, Arero, and oranges from Mr. C. H. McCracken. The medical superintendant, Dr. E. C. Grant, reported for July that admissions totalled 32, discharges 33. and deaths 2, those remaining in hospital being 21/There were 11 operations. mose present at the meeting were: —Messrs. A. J. 11.
