COUNTY ROADS

WORK IN WAIKOHU WAIWHERO BRIDGE. (Special to the Herald.) TE KARAKA, this day. A report on the work carried out in the county during the month was given by the engineer, Mr. A. G. Lucas, at the meeting of the Waikohu County Council in Te Karaka to-day. Mr. Lucas reported that the timber was on the site and the camps erected in connection with the construction of the Waiwhero bridge, :in the Motu riding. The work would be commenced as soon as the necessary ironwork came to hand. The deviation on the Koranga road had been completed and would bo metalled) as soon as the formation dried up. At present the traffic was using the old road. All material for the construction of the Koranga bridge was on the site and the contractor was now ready to pour the concrete for No. 2 pier. In the Waihuka riding the plant and bins had been installed at the quarry and a start had been, made with metalling. Timber lorries operating in the Rakauroa-Tahora road had been stopped owing to the way in which heavy ■ traffic passing over roads affected by the weath'er had cut up portions.

In the Waipaoa riding the snow had penetrated right through the upper crust of the Tarndale road, the top end of the road being in a bad condition. The report was received.
