REQUEST FOR NEW HALL
TERRITORIAL TRAINING ASSOCIATION’S ACTION A decision to make representations to the Government for the erection of a Garrison Hall in Gisborne was made at the newly-formed Gisborne Territorial Association last_ evening. In moving that representations be made to the member for the district and to the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, pointing out the total inadequacy of the Abercorn Hall for training purposes, the. chairman, Mr. F. R. Ball, pointed out that the meeting had been held at the request of the Government, and on that account alone the application should receive favourable consideration.
The motion was seconded by Mr. A. Sjeele and carried unanimously. Several speakers had referred to the subject during the evening, including Major A. Blackburn. On behalf of ti ic local officers and territorials, Major Blackburn expressed appreciation of the interest that had been t,aken in the formation of the association.
The difficulties that had been faced here probably were greater than those experienced anywhere else in New Zealand, he said. Apart from the difficulty of training 200 men in so small a drill hall, there was also the question of obtaining a suitable rifle range.
