PUNITIVE AIR ACTION
DUE WARNING GIVEN EVACUATION OF VILLAGES (British Official Wireless:) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Aug. 19. A dispatch sent toy the Commanderi in-Chief in India, General Sir Robert Cassels, on the Waziristan operations in 1938 pays a tribute to the work of the Royal Air Force.
The dispatch records that, in.-accord-ance (with the practice observed throughout the operations, whenever recourse was had to punitive air action against hostile tribes, due warning for the evacuation of women and children was given. Throughout the period reviewed the (Fakir of Tpi remained the focus of active hostility.
The casualties suffered toy the Government -forces during 1938 were 62 killed -and 206 wounded.
