The severe winter conditions have caused heavy mortality among lambs in /the Manawatu district and the continued period of cold and unsettled weather since the beginning of July is having very serious effects. Some individual losses range as high as £2OO but not for sveral days will the full extent of the latest visitation -be known.

The flood conditions generally are improving. The Manawatu Gorge and. Pahiatua 'Hill road, where big sdips occurred, are now open.
